The Lower Largo Viaduct is a disused Victorian railway viaduct built entirely from stone, with four tall arches spanning the river through the centre of this quiet coastal village in Fife. The structure has a strong, graphic quality that rewards a variety of compositions; position yourself low near the riverbank to shoot upward through the arches and emphasise their height, or pull back to frame the full viaduct against the sky with the harbour in the foreground. Overcast days work well here, softening the light and bringing out the texture of the stonework without harsh shadows. The golden hour adds warmth to the stone and is worth the effort. A wide angle lens helps when shooting close to the arches, while a short telephoto lets you compress the scene from further back. The area is easily walkable from the village.
