Lower Tama Lake is one of a pair of crater lakes. The winding trail (Taranaki Fall Walk) features a stunning view of Lower Tama Lake with a surrounding backdrop of Mt Ngauruhoe to the North and behind you Mt Ruapehu. There are no formed tracks down to the lakes, the descent to both is via steep unstable gullies. To ensure these pristine alpine lakes are kept free of weeds, do not touch or swim in the water. From the lower Lake you can walk a bit further up to the Upper Lake which has a there the view of 3 volcanoes (Tongariro ,Ruapehu and Ngaururuhoe) is stunning. (Tongariro National Park, New Zealand)
