Lunenburg Fisheries Museum
Lunenburg's Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic sits right on the waterfront, offering one of the most classically composed views of this UNESCO World Heritage town. The museum's wharf puts you at water level with colorful heritage buildings stacked up the hillside behind it, and historic vessels moored alongside add foreground interest that you simply cannot get from higher vantage points. Shoot along the dock using the boats and pilings as leading lines toward the town, or step back to include the reflections of the painted facades in the calm harbor water. Overcast days actually work beautifully here, softening the light and saturating the reds, yellows, and blues of the architecture. Early morning gives you the stillest water and fewest people, making clean reflections much easier to capture. A wide to mid-range zoom, something in the 24-70mm range, handles most compositions well. Parking is available nearby and the wharf is publicly accessible. (Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada)
