Perched at 1,610 feet above the Hudson Valley, this historic fire tower offers one of the most dramatic panoramas in the Hudson Highlands, with sweeping 360-degree views stretching from the river below to the distant Manhattan skyline on clear days. Climbing the tower itself adds elevation and removes obstructions, giving you clean compositions over the rolling ridgeline. Fall is the standout season here, when the surrounding hardwood forest turns and the valley fills with color; aim for mid to late October for peak foliage. Golden hour light in either direction works well, with sunrise casting warm tones across the river and the ridges to the west catching last light at sunset. A wide angle lens suits the expansive views from the tower, while a telephoto lets you compress the layers of hills. The trail is steep and roughly two miles each way, so wear solid footwear and give yourself time to shoot without rushing. (Beacon, New York, United States)
