Moyry Castle was built during the latter stages of the Nine Years' War (1601) to help secure Moyry Pass and the Gap of the North. The small square tower has an unusual layout with numerous gun-loops, from ground-floor level right up to the wall-walk and no stairs. The living quarters, with fireplaces and windows, must have been reached by ladders. (County Armagh, Northern Ireland)
