Nine Arches Bridge

Built during the British colonial era entirely from brick, stone, and cement without any steel, the Nine Arches Bridge curves through dense jungle between Ella and Demodara stations, and the combination of its elegant viaduct arches with lush green surroundings makes it one of the most striking railway structures in Asia. Your best compositions come from the hillside viewpoints on either side, where you can frame all nine arches in a single wide to mid-range shot with jungle filling the background. The real prize is timing your visit around the train schedule, typically a few departures per day, so the blue or yellow train crosses while you shoot. Early morning light cuts through the mist beautifully, but overcast days actually work well here since the green foliage pops without harsh shadows.
