Built in 1685, this weathered stone church is one of the oldest surviving buildings in New York State, and its moss-covered walls, arched windows, and surrounding historic graveyard make it a deeply atmospheric subject year-round. The churchyard is filled with leaning, lichen-covered headstones that pair beautifully with the simple Dutch colonial architecture, and you can use the cemetery's winding paths as natural leading lines toward the church facade. Overcast days work especially well here, softening shadows and bringing out the texture of the stonework and aged markers without the harshness of direct sun. Autumn is the standout season, when the surrounding trees ignite with color and the site leans into its Sleepy Hollow legend atmosphere. A wide-to-standard zoom in the 24-50mm range handles most compositions comfortably; get low among the headstones to add foreground interest and a sense of depth. Street parking is available along Albany Post Road. (Sleepy Hollow, New York, United States)
