Old Pier
This crumbling concrete pier juts into the Ottawa River at the spot where a historic ferry once crossed between Quebec and Ontario, offering a strong sense of place and quiet decay that photographs beautifully. Walk out along the remaining structure and use it as a leading line drawing the eye toward the wide river and the forested Quebec shoreline opposite. The pier works well for both wide compositions that include the surrounding water and sky, and tighter frames that highlight weathered textures and overgrown edges. Golden hour light, especially in the morning, skims low across the river and adds warmth and long shadows to the concrete surface. A wide angle lens handles the full scene well, while a short telephoto lets you isolate details or compress the far shore. The area is quiet and uncrowded, and you can park nearby and walk right down to the water. (Braeside, Ontario, Canada)
