Old Train Bridge

Old Train Bridge - Photo by @pecarskiepics1 / 1

This historic stone arch bridge spans the Mississippi River in the small village of Pakenham, offering one of the more charming and photogenic railway conversions in Eastern Ontario. The bridge features multiple stone arches reflected in the calm river below, making a low angle from the riverbank your best starting point, where you can align the arches with their reflections for a symmetrical composition. A wide to mid-range lens works well for capturing the full span, while a longer focal length compresses the arches nicely from either bank. Golden hour light in the morning or late afternoon wraps warmly across the stone, and still days give you clean reflections in the water. You can access the bridge easily from the OVRT trail on either side; walking out onto the bridge itself also gives you elevated views looking down the river through the trees.
