Omoide Yokocho
Omoide Yokocho is an amazing gem just steps from the west side of Shinjuku Station. Originally developed as a post war market area, the alley has kept its tight layout and small scale feel, giving it a very different character from the surrounding modern city. Today, it is lined with tightly packed bars and small restaurants, with hanging lanterns, signs, and dense wiring creating a layered, textured look. The tight space and low lighting make it perfect for night photography, with warm light spilling into the alley and people moving through the scene. The mix of smoke, reflections, and close quarters gives plenty of opportunities for candid shots and atmospheric street images. It’s a busy area, especially in the evening, but easy to access and explore on foot. (Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan)
