About Park Barrage Ouirgane
Park Barrage Ouirgane is a scenic gem that looks out over the Ouirgane Reservoir sitting tucked into a valley of the High Atlas. The lake was formed when the Yacoub El Mansour dam was built across the Nfis River in 2008, flooding part of the valley floor below the village of Ouirgane. Today the water winds between rugged red hills, with olive groves and little villages scattered along the slopes above the shoreline. It's a peaceful spot, and a popular summer escape for people from Marrakech looking for cooler mountain air. On a calm day the water mirrors the hills around it, so early morning is a great time to experiment with reflection photography before the wind starts up for the day. The dam wall itself makes a nice subject too, especially when you frame it with the curve of the lake stretching back into the mountains. The water levels rise and fall quite a bit depending on the season and recent rainfall, which can give the lake a completely different look from one visit to the next, making it a great spot to visit more than once and in different seasons. It's free to visit and easy to reach, since the main road from Marrakech toward the Tizi n'Test pass runs right through the valley. You can easily pair capturing the reservoir with a walk around the olive groves of Ouirgane to fill your shooting adventure. (Ouirgane, Marrakech-Safi, Morocco)
