Cap-Chat Lighthouse is a cute little lighthouse that sits at the end of Rue du Phare, just west of the town of Cap-Chat. It's a small square tower on a cliff looking out over the St. Lawrence. Built in 1909, it's only about ten metres tall with a round red lantern on top.Since you're about forty metres above the shoreline here, the river views, and blus skies feel endless. It's quite easy to frame the tower against the open water, letting the red lantern pop against all the rich blue tones as the sky and river fill the background. The keeper's house with it's bright red roof sits right beside it, so you can easily work both into one shot using the road as the perfect leading line. There is a few short trails that lead to beautiful elevated viewpoints for a higher angle back toward the lighthouse. The site now runs as a small park and campground. If you are just popping in for the afternoon a small contribution towards the maintenance of the grounds is usually asked at the gate. Grounds and the exterior of the lighthouse are open to visitors, though going up inside is not always possible. While you are here make sure to pop down along the shoreline to find the cat-shaped rock the town is named for before you leave. (Cap-Chat, Quebec, Canada)
