About Playa de Peñiscola
Playa de Peñíscola is a long stretch of fine golden sand running north from the foot of Peñíscola's old town. At its south end, whitewashed houses climb a rocky headland to the castle, whose tan stone walls sit looking out over the sea. Since the beach winds so far along Peñíscola's waterfront there is lots of space to take your time and experiment with shooting angles. You can start by standing near the water's edge down the beach and use a wide lens to follow the curve of beach leading you to the headland. Or you could pull out your telephoto lens and walk even farther down the beach to squeeze. the white houses and the castle into a tight stack above the water. The beach opens to the east so the sun appears right over the Mediterranean, making this the ideal spot to play with sunrise photography. Or you could aim to be here through sunset and into dusk. After the castle is lit with big floodlights and on a calm night those lights reflect across the water. There is paid parking running all along the seafront, with free spaces farther out, if you don't mind walking along the promenade. During tourist season the beach often fills up with both beachgoers and umbrellas which create an entirely different vibe for your compositions. (Peñíscola, Valencian Community, Spain)
