About Playa del Aguila
Playa del Águila is a golden sand cove on the northwest coast of Fuerteventura, a few kilometres south of El Cotillo. This scenic spot sits under the black lava rock of the cliff with a long staircase that has been cut into the rock as the only way down to the sand. Once you get down to the beacj you get fine golden sand, dark lava boulders, and cliffs about 20 m high surrounding it all. The tide changes the place completely. At low tide there's a wide open stretch of sand to work with, but at high tide the Atlantic comes right up to the cliffs and the beach disappears. The beach faces west so this an amazing sunset spot. The low sun brings beautiful colours all along the length of the beach and backlights the spray coming off the surf. You can pause partway fown the stairs to capture an elevated view over the cove with the cliff line running away south. On the beach there is lots of space to spread out and work with the wet sand at the water's edge for reflections of the dark boulders dotting the shoreline. Make sure to check the tide levels before you commit to the climb down and ideally try to time low tide and sunset together. The clifftop path carries on toward Playa de Esquinzo if you want to capture more of the coastal views. (La Oliva, Fuerteventura, Spain)
