About Point Traverse
Point Traverse is a quiet shooting gem tucked away only the shoreline of Lake Ontario. Sitting just off of Long Point Road is a photogenic strip of waterfront filled with flat pale pebbles that have slowly been smooth and layered by the lake. The water is clear and shallow, rolling out over the stones with boats often anchored just offshore in the summer. This whole area sits inside Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area and the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory, which keeps it quiet and undeveloped. The best time to be here is early in the day. The beach faces east so the sun appears right over the lake giving you amazing opportunities to experiment with sunrise photography. Shooting along the shallow water with a polarizer when the sun is just appearing and the water is calm with give you a peaceful to your compositions. Since this area is a protected wildlife area there can be closures during spring and fall migrations so make sure to check for closures before heading out. Plus if you are interested in bird photography make sure to plan for some extra time to stop by the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory while you are here. (Milford, Ontario, Canada)
