Ponte della Maddalena
This medieval stone arch bridge spanning the Serchio River is one of Tuscany's most striking examples of Romanesque engineering, with its famously asymmetrical arches rising to a dramatic hump that gives it an almost otherworldly silhouette against the surrounding hills. Shoot from the riverbank below to capture the full span reflected in calm water, especially effective in the morning when the light is soft and mist sometimes lingers over the river. A wide to standard zoom in the 24-50mm range works well for full compositions, while a longer focal length lets you isolate individual arches with the green hills behind. Early morning also means fewer tourists on the bridge itself, which is worth walking across to shoot looking downriver. The banks on both sides are accessible on foot, and the eastern bank gives you a slightly elevated angle that shows the hump profile most dramatically. (Borgo a Mozzano, Tuscany, Italy)
