Portnaluchaig Beach
This small, sheltered beach on the Scottish west coast is a favorite among photographers for its crystal-clear turquoise water, white shell-sand, and the dramatic backdrop of the Small Isles, particularly Eigg and Rum sitting on the horizon. Shoot from the rocky outcrops at either end of the bay to frame the beach in a wide arc, or wade into the shallows to capture the vivid color of the water against the dark island silhouettes. A wide-angle lens works beautifully here, letting you include both the foreground sand textures and the distant peaks. Golden hour is exceptional, especially at sunset when the light warms the mountains and the islands glow across the water. The beach is reached via a short walk from a small parking area just off the A830 near Arisaig, and low tide opens up more of the photogenic sand and rock pools.
