Pura Melanting is a striking Hindu temple reached by a dramatic staircase flanked by elaborately carved and painted statues in vivid reds, golds, and greens, making the ascent itself as photogenic as the temple at the top. Shoot from the base of the stairs looking up to use the symmetrical pathway as a strong leading line, or position yourself mid-staircase to compress the layered carvings into a single frame. A standard zoom or short telephoto works well for isolating the detailed stonework, while a wider lens captures the full staircase in context with the forest canopy above. Morning light is ideal, arriving before the midday sun flattens the carved relief details. The surrounding mountains and jungle provide a lush backdrop visible from the temple platform. The site sees relatively few visitors, so move quietly and respectfully, especially if worshippers are present. (Banyupoh, Buleleng Regency, Bali, Indonesia)
