Lake Tamblingan is one of Bali's most atmospheric shooting locations, a small crater lake ringed by dense rainforest and ancient Hindu temples that sit right at the water's edge, often draped in mist during the early morning hours. The combination of still water reflections, traditional outrigger canoes, and jungle-covered hills makes almost every angle compelling. Arrive before sunrise to catch the mist rolling across the surface and use a wide angle lens to pull in the temple structures against the foggy lake backdrop. Renting a traditional wooden canoe gets you out onto the water for low angle shots looking back toward the shoreline temples and tree line, which is far more interesting than shooting from the banks alone. The lake sits at around 1,100 meters elevation so bring a light layer as mornings can be cool. A 24-70mm covers most situations here well. (Buleleng Regency, Bali, Indonesia)
