Python Bridge
This striking serpentine footbridge in Amsterdam's Eastern Docklands curves dramatically over the canal connecting the Sporenburg and Borneo Island peninsulas, its bold red steel form making it one of the most photogenic pieces of urban infrastructure in the Netherlands. The undulating shape rewards wide to standard focal lengths, around 24-50mm, as you walk along the bridge and use its curves as a leading line drawing the eye through the frame. Shooting from water level, if you can access a kayak or boat, gives you a dramatic low perspective that emphasizes the arch against the sky. Early morning is ideal here as the residential streets are quiet, the light is soft, and the red paint reflects beautifully in the still canal water below. The bridge is open and freely accessible at all hours, and the surrounding modernist housing architecture adds strong geometric context to wider compositions.
