About Queens Garden Trail
The Queen's Garden Trail drops from Sunrise Point down to the canyon floor, winding its way along long ridge through orange and pink hoodoos banded with white. It's one of the more gentle trails that leave the rim here, dropping down about 100 m over 1.4 km before reaching a sheltered, partly wooded basin. Tucked away along the trail there is a hoodoo said to resemble Queen Victoria that gives the garden its name. Along the way, a few short tunnels cut right through the rock. The widest views come near the top, looking north over rows of spires toward Fairyland Canyon. Tunnel openings make natural frames for the hoodoos beyond. Down in the garden, deep green pines set off the orange rock nicely. The canyon opens to the east, so early morning sun hits the hoodoos head on and the colours really warm up. Ideally aim to go early if you can, both for the best light and to beat the heat of the afternonn sun. There is parking at Sunrise Point but that does fill up quickly on weekends and during the summer. You can also catch a ride on the seasonal park shuttle. Since this area sits within the Bryce Canyon National Park you will have to pay as entrance fee in order to access this trail. After following Queen's Garden Trail down to the canyon floor you can either double back along the trail or for a longer adventure take the Navajo Loop up to Sunset Point, then wind along the Rim Trail back to Sunrise Point.
