About Rainbow Haven Beach Provincial Park
Rainbow Haven Beach Provincial Park is a long stretch of sand and cobble along the Atlantic coast just east of Halifax. It sits across the mouth of Cole Harbour, so you've got open ocean on one side and salt marsh on the other. Boardwalks run out over the dunes, and the scenic walking path is filled with photogenic views. From the boardwalk you can turn one way to capture the ocean waves rolling in and the other for peaceful marsh water. Sunrise comes up over the ocean, and the low light runs along the cobble at the top of the beach creating a peaceful shooting vibe. How much sand depends entirely on the tide, so check it before you drive out. Wind and spray are constant, so keep an eye on your gear as you are shooting. Shorebirds fill the marsh side, and the boardwalk gets you quite close without disturbing them if bird photography is your goal. There's a big car park but it usually fills fast on summer weekends. The trails stay open throughout the winter so you'll often have the place to yourself if you don't mind shooting in a cold wind. (Cow Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada)
