Rjukandefossen is a dramatic double waterfall tucked into a narrow gorge along the Hemsila River in the Numedal valley, where two cascades thunder together into a churning pool below. The gorge walls frame the falls tightly, making a wide angle lens ideal for capturing both drops in a single composition while including the lush surrounding rock and vegetation. Overcast days are your best friend here, as the soft diffused light eliminates harsh shadows inside the gorge and brings out the deep greens and textures of the wet stone. Visit in late spring or early snowmelt for peak water volume, when the falls are at their most powerful and the spray fills the air. A long exposure of several seconds will smooth out the flow and add drama. The viewing area is accessible on foot with a short walk from the road, and sturdy footwear is recommended on the slippery terrain near the water. (Tuv, Numedal, Norway)
