Standing at the north entrance to Yellowstone, this massive basalt triumphal arch frames the gateway into America's first national park and carries real historical weight, with the 1903 cornerstone laid by Theodore Roosevelt himself. The arch works beautifully as a foreground element, and you have several strong compositional options: position yourself on the road looking south to use the arch as a frame for the mountains and park beyond, or pull back wide to include the surrounding landscape and give the structure scale. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range suits it well. Morning light hits the front face cleanly, while late afternoon wraps the stonework in warm tones. The arch sits right along US-89 in Gardiner, so access is straightforward, but traffic can be heavy in summer, so arriving early also means fewer cars and people in your frame.
