Salmon Glacier is one of the largest accessible glaciers in North America, stretching across the BC and Alaska border in a dramatic sweep of ancient blue ice and surrounding peaks. The best views come from the upper sections of Granduc Road, where you can look down over the glacier from elevated vantage points without needing to step onto the ice itself. Wide angle lenses work well here to capture the full scale of the glacier winding through the valley, while a telephoto helps compress the layers of ice and mountain ridgelines. Overcast days are surprisingly good for shooting, as cloud cover reduces harsh reflections off the ice and brings out the deep blue tones. Go in summer when the road is passable, but come prepared for rapidly changing weather, limited cell service, and rough gravel driving. The nearest services are in Stewart, BC, about 20 kilometers away. (Stewart, British Columbia, Canada)
