Salmon Glacier is one of the largest accessible glaciers in North America, a massive river of ancient ice flowing through a steep mountain valley on the Canada-US border. The scale here is what sets it apart, with deep blue crevasses, textured moraines, and sweeping ice fields that reward wide-angle compositions. The best vantage points are along Granduc Road, which climbs above the glacier and gives you elevated overlooks where you can shoot straight down the valley for dramatic perspective. A wide or ultra-wide lens works well to capture the full breadth of the ice, though a telephoto helps isolate surface textures and crevasse detail. Overcast days soften harsh shadows and bring out the glacier's blue tones, but clear mornings offer crisp mountain backdrops. The road is unpaved and can be rough, so a high-clearance vehicle is recommended; the drive from Stewart, BC takes about an hour. (Stewart, British Columbia, Canada)
