San Francisco Acatepec
This ornate 18th-century church is one of the most visually striking facades in all of Mexico, covered almost entirely in hand-painted Talavera tiles that explode with color and geometric detail. The front exterior is the main subject here; position yourself straight on from across the narrow street to capture the full symmetry of the towers and tiled surface, or move in close with a wider lens to isolate the intricate tilework patterns and carved saints nestled in their niches. A 16-35mm or similar wide angle works well given the tight street in front. Midday light can wash out the colors, so aim for soft overcast conditions or the angled light of mid-morning when the sun hits the facade without harsh shadows. The church sits in a small town just outside Cholula and is easy to reach by taxi or local transport. Arriving early helps you avoid crowds and parked vehicles blocking the foreground.
