About Scarborough Lighthouse
Scarborough Lighthouse sits at the end of Vincent Pier looking out over South Bay. It's a small white tower with a black lantern on top that uniquely has a two storey house tacked onto its base. Fishing boats and masts crowd both sides of the pier, so you get a working harbour in the foreground whichever way you point the camera. You can walk right out to the end of the pier and shoot back toward town. The tower lines up with the castle headland behind it, so the ruined walls will sit on the skyline and the old town stacks up the slope. From the beach on the other side of the bay, a longer lens puts the lighthouse against the harbour and the boats. The sea is to the east, so sunrise comes up behind the tower and it holds its shape as a clean silhouette. Plus the harbour changes completely depending on the tide levels. The boats sit on mud at low water and float at high so it is worth sticking around to capture both while you are here. (Scarborough, England, United Kingdom)
