Schanzlbrücke View

Schanzlbrücke View - Photo by Xavier Gut1 / 1

Standing on the Schanzlbrücke bridge, you get one of the most rewarding elevated views of Passau's old town, with the Danube framing the cityscape and the towers of St. Paul's Church and the green-domed St. Stephen's Cathedral rising above the rooftops. Position yourself along the bridge railing and shoot toward the confluence of the rivers, using the bridge structure as a subtle foreground anchor. A telephoto lens in the 70-200mm range helps compress the scene and pull the cathedral towers closer to the water. Golden hour light in the morning wraps the facades in warm tones, while blue hour after sunset gives you a moody, reflective atmosphere with city lights beginning to glow. The bridge is open to pedestrians and easy to reach on foot from the old town; midweek mornings tend to be quieter, with fewer people crossing through your frame. (Passau, Bavaria, Germany)
