Schlögener Blick
Perched high above a dramatic horseshoe bend in the Danube, this viewpoint gives you one of the most striking river compositions in Central Europe, where the water curves almost completely back on itself through a deep forested valley. The classic shot frames the full loop of the river from the elevated overlook, and a wide or standard zoom lens in the 24-50mm range works well to capture the sweep of the bend along with the tree-covered slopes on either side. Golden hour is ideal here, especially in the morning when soft light catches the surface of the water and adds depth to the valley; misty mornings in autumn can add a moody, atmospheric quality that makes the scene exceptional. The 20-minute walk up is manageable for most photographers, and you have enough space at the top to shift your position and adjust your framing. Polarizing filters help reduce glare on the water and deepen the blue tones on sunny days. (Schlögen, Upper Austria, Austria)
