Schmittenhöhebahn Top Station

The Schmittenhöhebahn runs from Zell am See up to a top station sitting just under 2,000 metres on the Schmittenhöhe. Zell am See and its lake are directly below to the east. Off the other side are more than thirty peaks above 3,000 metres, the Grossglockner and Kitzsteinhorn among them, with the Wilder Kaiser away to the northwest. While you are enjoying your ride up in a cable car you can easily shoot the descending car through the glass. Afternoon light suits this summit, especially if you are shooting lake views since the sun ends up behind you instead of over the water. A longer lens stacks the ridge lines and lets you experiment with capturing the far peaks. While you are up here take a few minutes to explore capturing the Elisabethkapelle, it's a small stone chapel from 1904, put up in memory of Empress Elisabeth. From the chapel there is a scenic trail that circles the summit that lets you explore every direction. Paragliders launch from up here too so if you are lucky you may be able to add them in dotting your skyline. You will need a ticket for the cable car, and it only runs in summer and winter seasons rather than year round, so check before you drive over. (Zell am See, Salzburg, Austria)
