Sigmund Thun Klamm
Sigmund Thun Klamm is a dramatic river gorge near Kaprun where the turquoise Kapruner Ache has carved through ancient blue slate rock, creating smooth sculpted walls, churning whirlpools, and cascading waterfalls just meters from your lens. The wooden walkways and bridges built along the narrow canyon walls give you constantly changing perspectives, from above the rushing water looking straight down into pools, to eye-level shots of the rock face with the river as a backdrop. A wide angle lens works best in the tight passages, letting you capture the towering walls and water together, while a longer exposure will smooth the white water into silky motion. Overcast days are ideal here since the gorge sits in deep shade and diffused light prevents harsh contrast on the dark wet rock. Wear grippy shoes as the walkways can be slippery, and keep your gear protected from spray near the falls. (Kaprun, Salzburg, Austria)
