About Seongsan Bridge
Seongsan Bridge (Seongsan Daegyo) is a long steel arch bridge crossing the Han River in Seoul, linking Mapo on the north bank with Yeongdeungpo on the south. It stretches out over the river using a series of intricate half moon arches sitting just above the water. During the day the bridge pops against its surroundings with its bright red paint job. Then after dark it changes completely with its LED lights that are usually set up in bright colours or themed. On a calm evening the arches make amazing reflections, sometimes even creating full rings on the water. There is lots of space in Mangwon Hangang Park to get low near the river's edge to experiment with reflection or long exposure photography. The newer World Cup Bridge sits beside the Seongsan Bridge, so from just the right angle you can capture both bridges in a single frame. If you are patient enough during sunset, the sun often goes down behind the arches creating amazing light patterns on the bridge. A slow shutter speed lets you play around with smoothing out the river and turns the traffic on the deck into light trails. The riverside park is an easy walk from Mangwon Station, and there is lots parking in the area making this a very easily accessible shooting location. While you are in the area you can also check out the retired navy ships at Seoulham Park at the northern end of the bridge. (Mapo, Seoul, South Korea)
