Skagsanden is a wide, sweeping arc of white sand on Flakstad island, framed by dramatic peaks that rise directly from the shoreline and reflect in the shallow tidal pools left behind at low tide. The reflections are the real prize here, so plan your visit around low tide when thin sheets of water stretch across the flat sand and mirror the mountains and sky above. Shoot wide with a 16-24mm lens to capture the full curve of the beach and the scale of the surrounding terrain. Winter is exceptional for northern lights, and the open sky to the north combined with those reflective pools can produce stunning results. In the blue hour before or after sunset, the soft diffused light flatters both the mountains and the wet sand. Parking is available directly off the E10, and the beach itself is an easy, short walk from the road. (Flakstad, Nordland, Norway)
