Spadina Avenue offers one of Toronto's most satisfying urban compositions, with the CN Tower framed perfectly at the end of a long straight corridor of buildings, streetcar wires, and tree-lined sidewalks. The key is positioning yourself in the middle of the road or on the center streetcar median to use the avenue itself as a strong leading line drawing the eye directly toward the tower. A telephoto lens in the 70-200mm range works well here, compressing the street and making the CN Tower appear larger and more dominant against the cityline. Shoot at dawn for empty streets and soft directional light, or stay for blue hour when the tower lights up and passing streetcar headlights add streaks of color to a long exposure. Traffic and pedestrians during the day give you natural street photography opportunities, and the sidewalks on either side offer slightly different perspectives worth exploring.
