Convocation Hall
Convocation Hall is a grand Edwardian rotunda on the University of Toronto's St. George campus, its neoclassical stone facade and copper dome making it one of the most architecturally striking buildings in the city. Shooting from across the front lawn gives you a strong symmetrical composition, with the columned portico as a natural focal point; a wide to standard zoom in the 24-70mm range works well here. The building is surrounded by mature trees that frame the dome nicely from slightly off-center angles, especially in autumn when the foliage adds warm color contrast against the pale stone. Overcast days bring out the texture in the stonework without harsh shadows, though the low golden light of early morning can add depth to the facade. The area is pedestrian-friendly and accessible year-round, and the surrounding pathways let you find tighter architectural details or pull back for a fuller campus context.
