Perched right on the historic city walls, St Augustine's is a small church with a very long history. It is believed to stand where Saint Columba founded his first monastery in 546, long before the city grew up around it. The building you see today is a modest stone church from 1872 surrounded by its very old graveyard. While walking the wall path you can look out across the church and its weathered headstones. Depending on where you set up sometimes you can also capture the spire of St Columb's Cathedral rising in the background. The weathered gravestones give you a strong foreground add a to the historic feel of the shot. Soft, overcast light suits the moody churchyard, while dusk and blue hour are also quite photogenic with the old stone and the surrounding city catching the last light. It is still an active parish with Church of Ireland and open to visitors during the day during tourist season and for services the rest of the year. You will want to check ahead if you want to capture the inside, and remember to be considerate around any worshippers. (Londonderry, Northern Ireland)
