The Derry Walls, completed in the early 17th century, form one of Europe’s best preserved examples of a walled city and encircle Derry’s historic core with over 1.5km of elevated stone walkways. The walls feature original gates, watchtowers, bastions, and cannons, offering photographers a blend of military architecture, urban texture, and sweeping views over both the old town and the surrounding cityscape. The height of the walkway provides excellent vantage points for capturing Derry’s rooftops, churches, and layered history in a single frame. Easily accessible on foot, the walls are open year round and best explored in the soft light of early morning or late afternoon. (Derry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom)
