Stokksnes
Stokksnes is one of Iceland's most dramatic coastal shooting locations, where the jagged peaks of Vestrahorn mountain rise sharply from a sweeping black sand beach, creating a near-perfect natural composition. The mountain reflects beautifully in the shallow tidal pools left by receding waves, so timing your shots around low tide gives you those mirror-like foreground reflections that make this place iconic. Shoot wide, around 16-24mm, to capture the full scale of the peaks against the sky, or compress the scene with a longer lens to isolate the H3 Radar Station against the mountain backdrop. Sunrise and golden hour bring warm, raking light across the dunes and ridgeline, though overcast days work surprisingly well by adding drama without harsh shadows. Access requires paying a small fee at the Viking Cafe near the entrance, which covers road maintenance; from there, walk north along the beach to find the best angles with the mountain centered behind the dunes.
