Sturgeon Creek Lookout

Sturgeon Creek Lookout is an amazing little gem that takes in the mouth of Sturgeon Creek, where the channel opens into Lake Erie. Boats sit moored along the west bank in front of the yacht club, with cottages and docks right down to the waterline. Set up looking to the western side of the bridge and the channel carries your eye all the way out between two breakwater piers to the open lake horizon. Still mornings are ideal. The water is often flat enough to double everything above it, boats, trees, cottages and sky. Canada geese usually hang out the channel and will give you some unique movement in the foreground. The view to the east side looks out out over protected wetland and the Caldwell First Nation Conservation Boardwalk. Over on the boardwalk you experiment with nature photography since it is dotted with turtle ponds and marshes instead of docks, plus shorebirds arrive here throughout migration season. Sandhill cranes, yellowlegs and killdeer all turn up here. This viewpoint is easily accessible from the Bevel Line Road bridge. Make sure to keep an eye on the roadway while you are shooting since there is no formal lookout point here. (Leamington, Ontario, Canada)
