Teatro Antico di Taormina is an ancient Greek theatre that dates back to the 3rd century. Over the centuries, the theater has been subject to several reconstructions and the consequent changes in use, from a stage for classical representations to a ring between gladiators and ferocious animals, thus becoming an amphitheater. Centuries of neglect followed until the Middle Ages with the conversion the complex into a residence. The theatre's hilltop location creates a splendid view toward the Calabrian coast, the Ionian coast of Sicily and the spectacular cone of Mount Etna. (Taormina, Sicily, Italy)
