This ornate 18th-century baroque church sits in the heart of Guanajuato's historic center, its elaborate stone facade making it one of the more rewarding architectural subjects in a city already full of them. The carved pink stone detailing on the front exterior rewards a longer lens that lets you compress and isolate decorative elements, while a wider angle captures the full facade along with the surrounding street life. Shooting from across the small plaza gives you enough distance to frame the whole structure without excessive distortion. Morning light hits the facade directly and brings out the warm tones in the stonework, making it the preferred time for front-on compositions. The surrounding narrow streets and foot traffic also offer opportunities to layer the church into environmental shots. The area is walkable and centrally located, so it fits naturally into a longer shooting session through the historic center. (Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico)
