Three Bridges

Three Bridges - Photo by ranpenn1 / 1

The bridge over the Conestogo River is located on Three Bridges Road just on the west side of the village of St. Jacobs. There is a dam with a falls (2.8m). The original bridge was build in 1947. The current bridge is a Mennonite constructed bridge that was purposely built very low so that in the spring the high waters would flow over the road surface. For several weeks of the year this bridge is not usable (swing gates close the road on either side) due to its flooding. The bridge is like a cement slab less than 0.75m above the water, but the difference in price of constructing a higher bridge is quite considerable. (St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada)
