Tirta Gangga is a royal water palace in eastern Bali, built in 1946 and restored after a devastating volcanic eruption, featuring ornate stone sculptures, tiered fountains, lotus-filled pools, and a series of circular stepping stones that invite creative compositions. The most iconic shot places you low near the water's edge, using the stepping stones as a leading line through the foreground while the 11-tiered Nawa Sanga fountain anchors the background. Wide angles work well to capture the full layered complexity of the palace grounds, while a longer lens lets you isolate the koi gliding beneath lotus blossoms. Early morning is ideal, arriving right at opening to catch soft light, still reflections, and the grounds before tour groups arrive. The site is well-maintained and walkable, with multiple levels and bridges offering varied perspectives; wear shoes you can slip off easily, as some areas require it. (Ababi, Bali, Indonesia)
