Toronto Zoo
Toronto Zoo is one of Canada's premier spots for wildlife photography, giving you access to a wide variety of animals from around the world without leaving the city. The large, naturalistic enclosures mean you can often position yourself to minimize fencing and background clutter, especially with a telephoto lens in the 300-500mm range that lets you isolate subjects and compress backgrounds. Midweek mornings are your best bet, when crowds are thin and animals tend to be most active before the heat of the day sets in. Overcast skies work surprisingly well here, providing soft, even light that prevents harsh shadows across fur and feathers. Look for moments of natural behavior such as feeding, movement, or interaction between animals rather than static poses. The Canadian Domain and Tundra Trek sections offer particularly strong shooting opportunities with wolves, polar bears, and moose in spacious settings. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
