Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain is one of Rome's most iconic baroque landmarks, a towering wall of sculpted travertine stone with Neptune at its center, surrounded by cascading water and dramatic figures. The challenge here is the crowds, so arriving before sunrise gives you the best chance of having the fountain nearly to yourself and catching the soft blue pre-dawn light reflecting off the water. Position yourself low and close to the basin edge to get strong foreground reflections, or step back and use a wider angle to capture the full facade within its tight piazza. A wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well in this compact space. Long exposures smooth the water beautifully and help any remaining foot traffic disappear. Midday light is harsh and the crowds are at their worst, so early morning or late evening after the tourist rush are your best windows. (Rome, Lazio, Italy)
