Trift Bridge
One of the most dramatic suspension bridges in the Alps, Trift Bridge stretches 170 meters across a deep glacial gorge with the turquoise Triftsee Lake below and a sweeping glacier backdrop behind it. Shoot from the far side of the bridge looking back to compress the bridge against the glacier and surrounding peaks, or get low on the approach path to use the bridge as a strong leading line into the mountain scenery. Midmorning light works well here since the gorge can be in shadow early, and overcast days actually suit this location by reducing harsh contrasts on the ice and water. A wide angle lens captures the full drama of the span and its surroundings, while a telephoto lets you isolate the bridge against the glacier. Take the cable car from Engstlenalp, book your ticket in advance, and allow at least three hours round trip for the hike. (Gadmen, Bern, Switzerland)
