Tahquamenon Falls include a single 50-foot (15 m) drop (the Upper Falls), plus a series of cascades and rapids called the Lower Falls. Found in Tahquamenon Falls State Park, the waterfall is on the Tahquamenon River as it makes its way into Whitefish Bay, Lake Superior. The river drains as much as 50,000 gallons of water per second during the late-spring runoff. As a result, Tahquamenon Falls are the second most voluminous waterfall east of the Mississippi River, beaten only by Niagara Falls. There is nearby parking at the falls and a brewpub. The hike to the falls is short and easily managed, and there is a viewing platform that makes photography a breeze. (Tahquamenon River, Paradise, Michigan, United States)
