Viedma Glacier is one of the largest glaciers in South America, spilling dramatically into the turquoise waters of Lago Viedma with towering ice cliffs and deep blue seracs that make for striking foreground subjects. You can shoot from the lakeshore with the glacier face reflected in calmer sections of water, or position yourself to include floating icebergs in the foreground with the glacier and Andean peaks behind. A wide-angle lens works well for capturing the full scale of the ice wall, while a longer focal length lets you compress the layers of ice and mountain into tighter compositions. Overcast days are surprisingly useful here since flat light brings out the intense blues within the ice without harsh shadows. Most access is by boat tour from Lago Viedma's southern shore, so plan around your departure time and arrive early to secure the best position on deck.
