View of Cotopaxi Volcano
At 5897m, Cotopaxi Volcano one of the highest active volcanos in the world. Historically its activity started in 1534 when the Spanish conquistadors began to venture into the territories that are now Ecuador. Cotopaxi Volcano is 13,000 years old and is the central feature of the Cotopaxi National Park (33 393 ha). Alexander Von Humboldt, in 1802, said: "the shape of Cotopaxi is the most beautiful and regular of all the colossal peaks in the Andes. (Cotopaxi National Park, Ecuador)
